Rasta Lipstick Plant (Aeschynanthus radicans 'Rasta')

Rasta Lipstick Plant is a trailing houseplant that adds instant personality with tightly curled leaves that tumble over the edge of a pot or hanging basket. It is easy to live with in bright indoor light, and it rewards steady care with vivid red tubular blooms that pop against the dark foliage. The cascading habit makes it a natural fit for shelves and high spots where you want greenery without giving up surface space. If you like plants that look a little wild but still feel polished, this one delivers.

Distinctive Features

This cultivar is prized for its twisted, curly, dark green leaves that create a dense, rope-like cascade as the stems lengthen. Bright red tubular flowers emerge from darker buds, giving the classic lipstick-plant look, with heaviest bloom often in late summer to early fall under good light. Stems can trail several feet over time, and the plant stays fuller when regularly pinched and trimmed. It is grown mainly for indoor display, where warm temperatures, humidity, and good drainage keep it looking its best.

Growing Conditions

  • Sun: Bright, indirect light, with gentle morning sun tolerated and harsh direct sun avoided.
  • Soil: A loose, well-drained potting mix, such as a houseplant mix amended with extra perlite or orchid bark.
  • Water: Water when the top inch of soil feels dry, then drain excess so roots never sit in water.
  • USDA Zones: 10 to 11.
  • Mature Size: About 12 to 24 inches tall in the pot with trailing stems about 2 to 3 feet long.
  • Habit: Trailing and cascading with dense, curly foliage.
  • Foliage: Dark green, tightly curled leaves that create a twisted, textured look.
  • Flowers: Red tubular flowers that typically bloom in late summer to early fall indoors.
  • Fruit: Not ornamental.

Ideal Uses

  • Focal Point: Hang it where the curly foliage and red blooms can steal the spotlight in a bright room.
  • Hanging Baskets: Let stems cascade freely for the fullest, most dramatic display.
  • Shelf Trailers: Place on a high shelf so the twisted foliage drapes down like living decor.
  • Bright Bathrooms: Use the extra humidity to keep leaves lush and encourage better blooming.
  • Indoor Collections: Pair with simpler-leaved plants to highlight its unique texture.

Low Maintenance Care

  • Pruning: Pinch and trim after blooming or anytime to keep the plant bushy and encourage fresh growth.
  • Humidity: Provide moderate to high humidity and good air circulation to keep foliage looking clean.
  • Feeding: Fertilize lightly in spring and summer to support growth and flowering.
  • Temperature: Keep it warm and avoid cold drafts, since chilling can cause leaf drop.
  • Repotting: Repot when rootbound, stepping up only one pot size to avoid overly wet soil.

Why Choose Rasta Lipstick Plant?

  • Curly Texture: Twisted leaves create a look that stands out from typical trailing houseplants.
  • Bright Blooms: Red tubular flowers add bold color when light and warmth are consistent.
  • Space Saving Habit: Trailing growth is perfect for hanging baskets and shelves.
  • Easy Indoor Fit: Thrives in bright, indirect light with straightforward watering.
  • Year-Round Interest: Foliage stays decorative even when the plant is not in bloom.

If you want a trailing plant with real character, Rasta Lipstick Plant is an excellent choice. Give it bright light, good drainage, and a steady watering rhythm, and it will build a dense cascade of curls with flashes of red bloom when the season is right.

A Beta Worth Rooting For
Format: Kindle
In Spare, Violet Fox flips the omegaverse on its head, giving us a Beta heroine determined to make her mark. Joining the Beta Trials to support her sick father, she's thrown into a pack that doesn't want her, especially the possessive Alphas. But here's the twist: their sweet Omega turns out to be her scent match. Cue the angst, forbidden tension, and a slow-burn romance that will make your heart ache in the best way. Violet Fox delivers an emotional, refreshing take on the genre, proving Betas aren't "spares." They're stars.

Beta, Alpha, Omega oh my!
Format: Kindle
Omegas are precious and given to Alphas & their packs... but the Betas want in too. To this end, the Beta government is rolling out its trial of assigning a Beta to each Alpha-Omega pack. But forcing a Beta into a pack where they are not wanted will not end well... Of course, no one expected the Omega to fall for the assigned Beta. Great read and cliffhanger

A familiar story, just with…..less.
Format: Kindle
So, as other reviewers make clear, this is very similar to Pack Darling and The Beta. It’s much closer aligned with The Beta, in plot and maybe more like Pack Darling with characters. That being said, I don’t hate this…..but it wasn’t great either. It’s both books mentioned but just….less. Less angst, less emotion, less feeling. The plot feels very half fleshed out, and the “bad guy” feels underwhelming. I didn’t really feel any real emotions from and of the male leads, except maybe Oliver. The others fell sorta flat for me. And Mika makes herself out to be this big bad ass straight outta training and then we never see it from here again with the one fitting room incident as the exception. SPOILER: The whole, “Oh, I’m actually probably an Omega, but I don’t wanna be but I do actually wanna be but no one can ever know my secret that I do nothing to hide “ thing fell so flat. She never commutes to believing she was secretly an omega, but also mentions her “secret” a lot. It just felt so manufactured. I’m intrigued enough to read part 2 and see how the author closes everything out, but this is not one I’ll recommend or ever come back to.

Good start to a series
Format: Kindle
I delayed reading the series for reasons I don’t remember. But my TBR list is huge so I thought I’d take a shot of this and I was pleasantly surprised. I didn’t think the blurb about it was anything special. But it was a very good book. It took some interesting twists and turns. I am so glad the second book is already out. Because I would not have waited patiently. Very slow burn but good storyline. 🔥🔥/5

A good read
Format: Kindle
Multiple points of view. 3 Alpha men and an Omega male. She is a Beta in training for a new program placing betas in Alpha/Omega packs. Mila is only doing the program for the money to take care of her dad. She wasn't expecting to fall for a pack but when she sees this packs Omega she is done for. There is just something about him. His Alphas are good looking as well. Too bad she is hiding a secret and their government is acting shady. I liked it and can't wait to see where their story goes.
