Embracing the Mystique: Night-

Blooming Jasmine Plant

The world of flora is a treasure trove of diversity, each plant bringing its unique charm to the botanical tapestry. Among these, the Night-Blooming Jasmine, scientifically known as Cestrum nocturnum, stands out as a fascinating and enigmatic member. Its delicate blossoms and intoxicating fragrance make it a captivating addition to any garden, but what truly sets it apart is its nocturnal nature. In this article, we will delve into the alluring world of the Night-Blooming Jasmine plant, exploring its characteristics, cultivation, and the enchanting secrets it holds.

A Fragrant Symphony in the Night

  • The Night-Blooming Jasmine, despite its name, does not belong to the Jasmine family.
  • It is actually a member of the Solanaceae family, which includes tomatoes, potatoes, and bell peppers.
  • Originating from the West Indies, this plant has traveled the world due to its unique and beguiling qualities.
  • The most striking feature of this plant is, as the name suggests, its night-blooming flowers.
  • While most plants proudly display their blossoms during the day to attract pollinators, the Night-Blooming Jasmine takes a different approach.
  • Its petite, tubular, greenish-white flowers prefer to unfurl their petals under the moon's gentle glow.
  • This adaptation has evolved to attract night-flying pollinators like moths and bats, who are drawn in by the plant's sweet and seductive scent.

The Enigmatic Beauty

  • The Night-Blooming Jasmine is not just a delight for the olfactory senses; its appearance is equally captivating.
  • This evergreen shrub can grow up to 10 feet tall, displaying clusters of lance-shaped leaves that add to its aesthetic appeal, even when not in bloom.
  • The flowers, which typically start to open in the late afternoon and release their full fragrance after sunset, exude a perfume that is often described as a heady mix of citrus, honey, and gardenia.
  • The fragrance, though enticing, can be overpowering for some, so it's advisable to plant it away from sleeping areas or windows.
  • The scent is most potent during the summer months when the plant is in full bloom.

Cultivating the Night-Blooming Jasmine

Caring for the Night-Blooming Jasmine requires some attention, but the rewards are worth the effort.

Here are some essential tips for its cultivation:

1. Location is Key:

  • Plant your Night-Blooming Jasmine in a spot that receives partial to full sunlight during the day but is shielded from strong winds.

2. Soil Matters:

Well-draining soil is crucial. A mixture of potting soil and perlite works well for potted plants.

3. Water Wisely:

Keep the soil evenly moist but not soggy. Water the top inch of soil when it appears dry.

4. Pruning:

pare the factory regularly to maintain its shape and encourage new growth.

5. Fertilization:

Feed it with a balanced, all-purpose fertilizer during the growing season (spring and summer).

6. Pest Control:

Keep an eye out for aphids and spider mites, common pests that may infest Night-Blooming Jasmine. Treat them promptly.

The Magic of Nighttime Blooms

  • Cultivating Night-Blooming Jasmine isn't just about adding a unique plant to your garden; it's also about creating an atmosphere of mystery and romance.
  • Imagine sitting in your garden under a starlit sky, surrounded by the intoxicating fragrance of these delicate blossoms.
  • It's a sensitive experience like no other.
  • But beyond its aesthetic and aromatic allure, the Night-Blooming Jasmine has also found its place in various cultures.
  • In some parts of the world, it is believed to bring good luck and is associated with love and passion.
  • In others, it's considered a symbol of quiet strength due to its ability to thrive in the darkness.

Unlocking the Secrets of Growing Night-Blooming

Jasmine: A Guide to Cultivating Beauty in the Dark

Night-blooming jasmine, scientifically known as Cestrum nocturnum, is a remarkable and enchanting plant that adds a touch of mystique to any garden. As the name suggests, it's a fragrant flower that releases its intoxicating aroma during the nighttime, making it a unique and cherished addition to gardens around the world. If you're eager to cultivate this captivating plant, you're in for a delightful journey. This article will serve as your guide to successfully growing night-blooming jasmine.

Understanding Night-Blooming Jasmine

  • Before we dive into the intricacies of cultivation, it's essential to grasp the essence of this fascinating plant.
  • Native to the West Indies, night-blooming jasmine is not a true jasmine; it belongs to the Solanaceae family.
  • It's often called "Queen of the Night" due to its mesmerizing fragrance that peaks in the evening, inviting moths and other nocturnal pollinators.
  • The flowers are small, tubular, and usually white or pale green, with an aroma that can fill the entire garden.

Selecting the Right Location

  • The first step in successfully growing night-blooming jasmine is selecting the right location.
  • These plants thrive in warm, tropical climates, so if you're in a region with cold winters, consider growing it in a pot that you can bring indoors during the colder months.
  • In your garden, find a spot that receives partial to full sun during the day.
  • Night-blooming jasmine prefers well-drained soil with organic matter.
  • Insure that the planting area has good air rotation to help fungal conditions.

Planting Your Night-Blooming Jasmine

Once you've chosen the perfect spot, it's time to plant your night-blooming jasmine:

Prepare the Soil:

Amend the soil with compost to improve its fertility and drainage. Night-blooming jasmine doesn't like soggy roots, so good drainage is crucial.

Dig a Hole:

Dig a hole that's about twice as wide as the root ball but no deeper. Place the Plant in the hole at the same position it was in the pot.

Mulch:

Apply a layer of mulch around the plant to help retain moisture and regulate soil temperature.

Watering:

Water your jasmine thoroughly after planting and keep the soil consistently moist, but not waterlogged.

Caring for Your Night-Blooming Jasmine

Caring for night-blooming jasmine is relatively straightforward, but it requires attention to detail:

Pruning:

Regular pruning will help your plant maintain a compact and bushy shape.pare after the flowering season to encourage new growth.

Fertilizing:

Feed your jasmine with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer during the growing season, typically in spring and summer.

Pest Control:

Keep an eye out for common garden pests like aphids and spider mites. Insecticide cleaning or neem oil painting should be used immediately to treat any infestations.

Winter Care:

If you live in a cold climate, bring your potted night-blooming jasmine indoors before the first frost. Keep it in a sunny spot, and reduce watering during the winter months.

Enjoying the Fragrant Rewards

  • The ultimate joy of growing night-blooming jasmine comes when it graces your garden with its fragrant blossoms.
  • On warm summer evenings, especially around dusk and into the night, you'll be treated to a scent that's simply enchanting.

Absolutely love Spazz!
I just received my robovac this afternoon, and let me tell ya: I already absolutely love it. I have named him Spazz, since the first time using him, he went in all sorts of seemingly random directions and was completely aggressive with ANYthing in his way. I'm talking full - bore, ram into it and push it. Then, as I realized, he was simply mapping his parameters and once he learned them (which didn't take long) he just did his thing and went right back to the charging station and rested. Here is my feedback: 1. I had a little trouble with the app. I tried logging in several different times with several different passwords and I kept getting a very cryptic message, that wasn't even complete! Just a quick flash on my screen and I cannot for the life of me tell you HOW I ended up finally logging in. But I did and will never log out. Ever. Just in case. 2. It took me a few tries (before I came to the conclusion that it was my error not the machine) to get Spazz to connect to the app. Little did I know that since the power station (some like it hot) is positioned relatively close to the Internet router already, I did not need to find it, but simply press the start/home buttons at the same time to reset the wifi and then connect to the app via bluetooth. 3. I am assuming Bluetooth always needs to be on in order to control Spazz, but at night when my phone is charging I'll turn it off and turn it back on in the morning. Not sure I like the idea of always having Bluetooth running since it is a battery drainer. 4. I also am not a fan of allowing ANY thing to use my location, except GPS, but alas, if I want to control Spazz remotely (this unit did not come with a remote, btw) I am at the mercy of this requirement. I also have outdoor cameras by the same company, so they know my location already anyway I suppose. 5. I like the suction Spazz has: he even picked up a sock that my boyfriend lacksidasically left on the floor. Which caused a red flashing error and the voice on the charging port yelled at me saying to clean the roller brush. So I flipped Spazz over and lo and behold, there was a sock halfway in and halfway out of the roller brush. Pulled it out and good as new. So, suction is AMAZING. 6. Speaking of suction, he does a great job of getting up dog hair. I have 2 dogs, one with very thin hair and the other with a wiry undercoat and it is all gone within the cleaning time. 7. And touching on that aspect, it really doesn't take THAT long. Yes, it takes longer than I do BUT I also do not go in any kind of pattern like Spazz NOR do I go over the same area more than once. In essence, he is cleaning my floors better than I do and I'm kinda ticked about it. 8. The fact that I can control how much suction he has using the app is great. Even though he features a BoostIQ, changing the suction depending on the material, I still like that I can get a more thorough cleaning using MAX. Does it use more battery? Yes. Does it clean more? Perhaps. Does it make me FEEL like it's cleaning more? Absolutely. 9. The mapping accuracy is indeed, well, accurate. I moved him upstairs to do my two bedrooms and the hallway and at first he was like, 'uhhhh I haven't been here yet. What's going on? Where am I? Who are you?!' but then he settled down and mapped out the areas just fine and went along his merry way. 10. I have to de-snag him from cords every once in awhile and give him a little nudge transitioning from the downstairs hallway to the bathroom, but honestly once he learns his map, he avoids such obstacles and has even figured out how to get over the hump from the threshold in the bathroom. Basically lifts up and scales it like he's climbing Mt. Everest, which to him, may seem like it. 11. I like the fact that he empties himself and any hair caught on the brush is quickly razored away when he goes home. Yes it's a bit noisy but it's only for a minute and I'll take that over needing to manually pull hair out like I have to in my regular vacuum. Not getting my hands all gross is a huge plus. And it really doesn't seem like there is anything tangled in it anyway. I have long hair but I'm pretty adamant about getting it thrown away even though I know there's some strands about. 12. Spazz's functionality is top - notch. Nothing has gone wrong, other than the few things with the app connection and the wayward sock incident, as it is now known as. 13. The dogs do not seem to be bothered by him at all, just curious as to what this new thing is in their space and my male quickly dis-trusted Spazz to NOT suck up his favourite bone so he snaggled it up and went to another room. My female watched Spazz very intently, just in case he may actually have legs and feet and scurry away. Thankfully she did not try to bite him like she does with my regular vacuum! 14. I have a robot trash can (motion sensour) in my kitchen and Spazz knocked into it while mapping and I told him 'that is another robot. There better not be any interaction between the two of you and don't even think about communicating.' Only time will tell what transpires between them. If we don't turn up for awhile, do a wellness check. If there's a putrid odour, but the floors are clean and the garbage has been taken out, just know humanity has lost. For everyone complaining it is not immediately perfect right out the box: there IS a manual on line. Read it. Study it. Learn it. Embrace it. If you cannot find the time to actually READ something, watch a video since most people believe that because you watched a 3 minute video, you're automatically brilliant and know everything about it. It will never be perfect in any way, shape or form. Remember, computers are only as smart as the person using them. Take some time to get to know your machine and HAVE PATIENCE!!

Review after a year of use
So i had this Vacuum for a little over a year, and i am happy with it, but in the past couple of months some issues showed up / or where kind of present the whole time because of how it works... - Its gonna find everything, and its gonna eat everything: Cables on Floors in general, behind couches, or behind sideboards, corners of lightweight carpets - gonna get stuck in the brush or robot looses contact to the floor with wheels (f.e. behind media sideboards)...you have to make sure nothing is on the floors where it could get stuck, even shoes are sometimes difficult for it. - Under Couch issue (all the time issue): the Lidar Sensor is on top of the robot (highest point) If you have a couch where the fabric underneath hangs a little down, the robot goes there but gets stuck because the Lidar sensor cant see anything, because the fabric hangs down on it. And im not talking ripped fabric - its just bulging down a little but thats enough in my case to cover the Sensor and its just sitting down there - spinning and turning, until i get under the couch and push the fabric up a little... - Battery Runtime (all the time issue): I have aprox. 1400sqft living space under AC - it needs up to 1-2 battery charges on "standard mode" to clean all floors 1x. - Corner or Edge Cleaning brush (showed up after aprox 11 months): starts to squeak sometimes really loud. Since i changed them regularly as recommended, i made sure its always clean beneath the brush and the mount, so no hair or any other debris down there. - It has problems with sliding doors (all the time issue): scans trough the doors and wants do go there but cant of course. You have to go into the app and draw a line close to sliding doors so it doesn't try to go there.... - Biggest inconvenience (showed up after 12 months): it happens to me almost every time after a clean, It drives back onto the base station - and it feels like the charging Pins either on the base or on the robot, lose contact, and the robot just discharges and next time you want to use it (f.e next day), its Batteries are empty, and you have to try turn it back on (with empty batteries) and wait for it to charge up. i cleaned both pins on the base station and the contact surfaces on the robot (no, no protective plastic strips on pins or contacts) but it doesn't really seem to help. - Sometimes the app / Robot looses Maps (sporadically): The first thing is a mapping. Robot drives around and scans the whole area - splits the map into different rooms. You can adjust this Rooms and "No go zones" via the app. Sometimes those maps inside the app go "bye bye" and you have to do it all over again. Other than that its a very nice robot and it does its thing.

App/Vacuum Loses maps after 3 months of use.
I'm hoping someone from Eufy is monitoring these reviews. We love...loved our Eufy. It works great. The mapping and map editing is so nice to be able to program the vacuum to clean different rooms each day. We love the self cleaning system that empties the Eufy after each use. We owned a Roomba a few years ago with the self empty option and it never worked. We had it replaced by Roomba twice and it still never worked. This one works exceptionally well. BUT here we are 3 months later and the app is losing the map. nearly every day, the system has to re-map our entire space. Yesterday, it had no map and went down the stairs. The unit is supposed to have a sensor to prevent it from going where there are drop offs but apparently this issue with the mapping is also showing up in the unit being unable to stay in the cleaning area. I'm hoping that someone from Eufy will reach out to help. Thanks,

Quiet, that's about the only good quality
UPDATE: Moving to 5 stars! Quickly after my 2 star review (below) the seller reached out and askked to exchange the defective product for an upgraded model at no cost to me. They were attentive and quick in responding, and I received a replacement version that also included the mopping functionality (The first didn't have this), and it works as expected. Customer service was too notch. I wouldn't hesitate to buy again. This is a lot quieter than my original Roomba, that is still running strong...but I wanted a 2nd robot vac so I could run one on the main floor and 2nd floor of my home. This one doesn't fit the bill, and I will be returning. I ran it while I was at home, and it stopped 4 times, telling me I needed to clean the brush. There was absolutely nothing bound on the brush any of the times. But had I not been home, it wouldn't have finished cleaning because it stops completely when it thinks there is hair. Then, another time, it just stopped running. It didn't say anything, so I don't know why it stopped. I assume it thought it was done, but the whole level of my home wasn't finished. This was all in just the one time I attempted to run it for 1 cycle. When I pushed the start button again, it said something to the effect of starting cleaning, so that's what makes me assume the last cycle was over. It does clean well, and is very quiet; however, it just stops for no reason far too often. I want it to run while I'm at the office, which obviously won't work if I have to be here babysitting it for the imaginary dirt on the brush. This will unfortunately be getting returned. I think I'll stick to the Roomba brand, as I have far less issues with my 10+ year old vac than this new one with all the nice features.

Decent robot vacuum, but struggles with dog hair
The setup was straightforward and the self-empty station is a nice feature. It navigates the house fairly well and does a decent job picking up everyday dust and debris on hard floors. Where it struggles is with dog hair. With a shedding dog in the house, I noticed it tends to leave behind quite a bit of hair, especially along edges and in areas where it tends to accumulate. It works better for lighter debris but doesn’t seem powerful enough to keep up with heavier pet hair. Pros: Easy setup and app integration Self-empty station is convenient Navigates rooms fairly well Cons: Struggles with dog hair Not as strong as expected for pet households Bottom Line: This vacuum works fine for general cleaning and light debris, but if you have a dog that sheds a lot, it may not keep up as well as expected. For pet owners specifically, it might not be the best fit.
